Flying on a turbo-prop
31st March, 2010 - Posted by Traveler -
When making travel arrangements, I always check to see what type of plane each flight offers to my destination. Traveling to the regional airport in Billings, Montana, there aren’t many choices. You are either gonna fly on a small jet or a propeller powered “puddle hopper”. I went ahead and booked the flight on a turbo-prop plane from Denver to Billings, because I liked the departure and arrival time. I was very nervous because I haven’t flown on one in years, and the last time I was on one was a rough experience. This flight was different. The carrier was Frontier Airlines, and the turbo-prop plane was fairly large. There were two seats per row, with 19 rows of seats on each side of the isle. The plane handled the turbulence very well, and got us to our gate early. There was ample leg room, seats were just as comfortable as the one’s on the 737’s I usually travel on, and service was great. This was a newer plane, or at least appeared to be, and the noise from the engines was minimal. Now, make sure you check the description of the turbo-prop before you book the flight. Reference the picture at the beginning of this entry. The wings are fixed to the top of the plane, and there are 19 rows of seats.(This a picture of the plane similar to the one I flew on) Some turbo-props are the small “puddle hoppers” that can be very rough in turbulence.
