Visit Crater Lake
10th February, 2010 - Posted by Traveler -
Situated high in the mountains of central Oregon, crater lake is the deepest lake in the western hemisphere. Crater Lake was formed by the collapse of Volcano Mt. Mazama during an eruption about 7000 years ago. The caldera of the volcano filled with water and formed present day Crater Lake. Its deepest point is about 1900 ft. and the lake itself is about 5×6 miles in area. Since there was no natural fish population, the lake has been stocked and supports a healthy population. Crater Lake was given National Park status in 1902 by President Teddy Roosevelt and the natural beauty has been preserved ever since allowing the many tourists that visit the park to see a wonder beautiful work of nature. Oregon is one of the most “Green” states in the country and prides itself in keeping sites like Crater Lake as pristine as possible. The waters of the lake are said to be some of the most pure in the world and the clarity is unbelievable. Lodging and activities are abundant in and around the state park, but reservations should be made to guarantee a spot.
