Visit Vancouver, Canada

8th March, 2010 - Posted by Traveler -

vancouverVancouver was recently thrust into the spotlight by hosting the Winter Olympics in 2010.  Despite its recent attention worldwide, Vancouver has always been a popular destination, especially for Americans.  With a population of around 600,000 residents, and over 2 million in the greater Vancouver area, the British Columbian town is proud to boast one of the lowest crime rates found anywhere in the world.  The weather is pretty good, having normal highs in the summer in the upper 60’s, and highs in winter months in the 40’s.  Rainfall is plentiful, as with all the Pacific Northwest, and everything stays green.  There are many things to see and do while you visit.  As you probably already know, since they held the Winter Olympics, the skiing is terrific.  The Metropolis at Metrotown is Canada’s greatest shopping destination.  With over 450 stores, excellent restaurants, and theaters, shopoholics will have a field day.  If you want to see a lot in a little time, take a trolley tour to all of the hotspots.  Vancouver is a melting pot of culture with a healthy share of minorities from all over the world.  A common misconception about the town is the legality of marijuana.  Marijuana is not legal to grow or use.  Vancouver is also one of the only places to allow gay marriage, therefore, there is also a large gay population.  There are strict guidelines to get into Canada though.  If you are a felon, or have had a dui in the past, don’t expect to just cross the border like you can into Mexico.  For rules and guidelines for admittance into Canada, you will need to apply for a passport.
