Visiting Flagstaff, Arizona

flagstaffWhen most people think of Arizona, they think about deserts, heat, cactus, and probably Pheonix.  All of that part of Arizona is nice, but my personal favorite place in Arizona is Flagstaff.  It is the complete opposite of the image most have of the state.  Flagstaff is situated at about 7000 feet above sea level and is surrounded by beautiful mountains and forests.  Located in norther Arizona off Interstate 40, right next to the western edge of the Colorado Plateau.  The town started its expansion in large part of Route 66 being opened in the early part of the 20th century.  Flagstaff is also home to the Lowell Observatory and Northern Arizona University.  Its close proximity to the Grand Canyon (75 mi.), and other tourist attractions like Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument, Barringer Crater, Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, and Lake Powell make Flagstaff a popular sopping point.  So next time you are out west and want to see another beautiful piece of Arizona, stay a night or two in Flagstaff.
