Treasure Hunting on the Beaches of the Caribbean
23rd March, 2010 - Posted by Traveler -
The lure of finding buried treasure has captivated man for centuries. A rich find could catapult the seeker into fame and fortune, only seen in the movies. The fact of the matter is, it is very possible to strike it rich in the Caribbean. Thousands of shipwrecks litter the bottom of the sea, and many of them were loaded with treasure that was intended to be brought from the new world to Europe back in the old days. Only a few high profile finds have been recorded, but the lure to find the next big pile of treasure is as great as ever. To keep it on the realistic side, to make one of those “Big” finds, you will need a lot of money to begin with, whether it be your own, or by an investor that loves to take large risks. Boats, ground scanning radar, pumps, dredges, and hundreds, or maybe even thousands of man hours will wipe a bank account out quick. For those without the bank accounts to finance such an adventure, scanning the beaches with a simple metal detector can yield rewards also. Since the Caribbean is so prone to major storms, searching the beaches after hurricanes is probably the best time to get out and prospect. The waters of the Caribbean are relatively shallow compared to other large bodies of water, and a good storm can turn the ocean floor and wash relics onshore. Any beach in this part of the world is a great place to prospect due to the number of wrecks out there. Beaches of Florida, the Bahamas, the Virgin Islands, or wherever you are vacationing in the Caribbean are liable to produce those shiny precious metals. Even if you don’t find anything, prospecting is a great entertainment for any age group, and if you do find something, you might just be able to take an extended vacation for as long as you want.
