Made more famous by Gov. Sarah Palins’ Vice Presidential nomination and of course the hit television show “Deadliest Catch” on the Discovery Channel, Alaska is so much more than crab fishing and salmon runs. Any outdoor enthusiast will enjoy the thousands of miles of coastline and interior forest land that can never be explored all in one trip.
Just log onto www.cheaperticketprices.com and fly into any number of airports, and your adventure begins. You could just stay on the water with a nice comfortable cruise. Fly fishing? Oh yeah, land a 15 pound coho salmon in minutes. Perhaps just hiking, you could wander for weeks without seeing another soul.
Having some of the cheapest seafood in the nation due to the abundance of the Bering Sea at your doorstep certainly helps as well. Crab, salmon and caribou are staples, but try the whale and seal that the locals are allowed to catch along the west coast. Small harbor towns who’s fishery industry supports them is a great total get away from civilization.
All in all you’ll love Alaska for all it has to offer, unspoiled wilderness, scenic railroads, vast amounts of wildlife (and bugs in the summer months!) so almost anyone would be happy.
