American Airlines follows others in raising bag fees

Checked baggage will cost more on American Airlines for customers buying tickets after February 1st.  Prices are being increased by $5 on both 1st and 2nd checked bags.  The first checked bag will now cost $25, and the second will cost $35.  Passengers flying in 1st and business class, along with members of the Armed Forces will not be required to pay the baggage fees.  This is just another blow to travelers who are already struggling with the recession, to get to their destination for less.  Discount carriers like Southwest and Jet Blue still offer flights without checked baggage fees.
